NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet Gets Android 5.0.1, OTA Available

The NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet is the latest Android-powered device released by famed GPU manufacturer NVIDIA. This device has been one of the very first devices to receive an update to Android 5.0, beating almost all flagships by various other OEMs. NVIDIA has just announced via their blog that the NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet received a 2.1 update to Android 5.0.1, which brings a few interesting things.

Android 5.1 Possibly Coming February 2015

Google released Android 5.0 just over a month ago, and since then Lollipop has been trying to establish its position in the global smartphone market. Despite its many new features and overall greatness, Android 5.0 has many issues that still need to be addressed. According to our colleagues at AndroidPIT and their two internal sources, Google is working on Android 5.1, which should really come as no surprise because software progress is inevitable. We already know that Google is always looking ahead, but the interesting part is that if rumors are to be believed, we’ll see 5.1 as soon as the end of February.

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

Just over a week ago, we talked about two Google Play Edition devices getting their Lollipop updates. HTC released updates for the One and One (M8), as well as the kernel source required by GPL licensing. Another OEM started to roll out the Android 5.0.1. Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9505G should expect the OTA notification soon.

HTC One (M7) GPe Gets Lollipop, OTA Captured

Android Lollipop still has a very low market share, with less than 0.1% of the overall Android devices connected to Google Play services. This number will soon change, as some devices are getting official updates from their manufacturers.

Just two days ago, the Samsung Galaxy S5 received an Android 5.0.1 update in Poland. We didn’t have to wait long for the HTC’s response. The Taiwanese OEM started to push the Lollipop update for the Google Play edition of the HTC One (M7). The OTA update is 511 MB, and of course, it doesn’t contain the Sense.

Get the LG G3 Android 5.0 Lollipop update now

The LG G3 is another device in line for the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, but the question in everyone’s minds is when? Thankfully, an LG representative recently put our minds at ease when he disclosed that the official Lollipop update will be coming to the LG flagship by the end of 2014.Update: A leaked Sprint document has confirmed that their customers will receive an update to the LG G3 starting at the beginning of December. HTC One M8 GPE and M7 GPE to see Android 5.0 Lollipop this week

Does this sound familiar? It was only a little over a week ago that HTC announced that both the original M7 and the new M8 versions of their HTC One Google Play Editionphone should see an update to Android 5.0 Lollipop last week. They are at it again, putting out a tweet suggesting the hold could be released by the end of the day December 1st.

Google Nexus 4 Finally Gets Lollipop Factory Image, Android Up to 5.0.0_r6

Google has finally released Android 5.0 Lollipop factory images for the Google Nexus 4. The new factory image comes alongside yet another revision of the operating system: Android-5.0.0_rc6. The images for the mobile data variants of Nexus 7 (both years) are yet to be seen.

The previous batch of Android 5.0 was tagged with various versions: LRX21M for the Nexus Player, LRX21Q for the Nexus 9, LRX21O for the Nexus 5, and LRX 21P for the Wi-Fi variant of Nexus 7 and Nexus 10. The build for Nexus 4 is labeled as build LRX21T and brings some minor changes related to audio issues and the WCNSS service.

Google Nexus 6 Factory Images, 5.0 r7 Source Now Available

Google continues to play its nightly game with the release of the latest 5.0.0_r7 revision of Lollipop. The updated code isn’t everything, as the Mountaon View giant decided to publish the factory image for yet another Nexus device–and surprisingly, it’s not the Nexus 7 GSM, but rather, the Google Nexus 6. Original Android developers have also released new versions of the OS for other devices in the last few days, so it’s a wise choice to check if your build is up-to-date.
